DRIES VAN NOTEN INSPIRED CAPSULE COLLECTION
For this project, students were challenged to step into the role of a trend forecaster and designer. We were each tasked with selecting a brand of our choice and conducting in-depth research into its recent collections, focusing on print and color direction. In addition to brand research, we also analyzed current runway trends for Spring/Summer 2025 and dove into color predictions for the upcoming Fall/Winter season. With this insight, we then curated a trend-forward yet brand-appropriate color palette—a delicate balance of forecasting and brand alignment.
From there, we selected fabric types, designed two original prints that reflected both the current fashion landscape and our chosen palettes, and then created a six-look capsule collection that tied everything together. Each look had to showcase the trends and aesthetics we researched, while also feeling authentic to the brand’s identity.
For my brand, I chose the ever-elegant Dries Van Noten. Known for his poetic prints and muted, melancholic palettes, Dries felt like the perfect match for my creative vision. I was particularly inspired by the F/W 2025 color predictions and wanted to marry these tones with the bold animal print trend that’s been prowling the S/S 25 runways. One of my prints took inspiration from classic leopard motifs, while the other played with an abstract interpretation of snakeskin—reimagined in Dries-style.
My final capsule collection includes:
a layered trench coat,
an oversized sweater,
wide-leg trousers,
a long-sleeve maxi dress,
a pleated skirt, and
a structured yet relaxed blazer.
This project was such a fun blend of trend analysis, personal creativity, and brand storytelling. I had a blast creating this collection and hope I did Dries Van Noten proud!
